Kiddie pools aren't as popular as originally theorized

It was a mere theory that kiddie pools sales would increase during the looming closure of city pools for the summer, but I was wrong. Phone calls to local general stores resulted in the same thing. Most said their sales were about the same as last year with little demand.

Every student and staff member in Spokane Public Schools’ three lowest-income elementaries will be able to eat breakfast for free this school year. “There is no doubt that students who have access to a healthy breakfast are going to be more successful in school. It’s hard to learn when you’re hungry,” said Nancy Stowell, district superintendent.

Mayor, Community Dedicate New Garry Park Monument

A three-year project came to fruition this week with the dedication of the new Gathering Place Monument at Chief Garry Park.

About 200 people showed up at Chief Garry Park on Wednesday for the dedication of a memorial inspired by the park’s namesake, revered Spokane tribal leader Spokane Garry, who died in 1892. The Gathering Place monument, incorporating several Spokane tribal themes, replaces a deteriorating concrete statue of Chief Garry, which was removed in 2008, and the short-lived appearance of a totem pole favored by coastal tribes.
