David's Pizza Finds New Location

Plans to build a strip mall on the former location of David's Pizza is the catalyst for their recent move. Customers found out suddenly that they were closing over the weekend. Owner, Mark Starr found out that the property owners would be tearing the building down to build six business spaces. He was asked to remain as an anchor tenant with his space cut in half, but declined.

"While I could have stayed there, it wouldn't have been good for the business. We needed to grow and not go in the other direction," Starr said.

Drivers Using Frontage Roads As Freeway Alternative

Spokane drivers trying to navigate a series of Interstate 90 construction detours are now creating safety problems in nearby neighborhoods.

Drivers who can't get on or off the freeway the way they normally do are struggling to find alternative routes to and from work, and that means they're driving through neighborhoods not normally used as traffic corridors, which has residents concerned.

For example, 2nd Avenue near Altamont usually isn't that busy, but now that drivers can't get on the freeway they've turn that 30 mile an hour frontage road into a high speed alternative to the freeway.

Oil Can Henry's “Make a Change for the Cure” fundraiser kicked off Saturday at their various Spokane locations. Their team will be wearing pink hats and bowties to support the mission to fight breast cancer.

The business is pledging to raise $75,000, all of which will go to Susan G. Komen for the Cure foundation.

The Washington Secretary of State office is opening up nominations on Friday for this year's Corporations for Communities 2011 Award. Last year, Secretary of State Sam Reed, selected two corporations, one large and one small corporation that were recognized as exceptional Washington businesses that demonstrated a commitment to giving. GLY Construction in Bellevue and Dissmore's Foods in Pullman were selected as the winners, picked from a statewide pool of nominees.
